Battery Storage

Battery Storage is a great way to supplement your Solar installation by allowing you to use more of the Solar power you produce.

Batteries can also be installed as standalone systems without a solar installation and still be a benefit to the home.

How does battery storage work?

The battery can be charged up using energy produced from your solar panels, that isn’t required in the home at that time. For example, during the day when the house might be empty, but your solar panels are producing power, this power can be stored in the battery for use later in the day. This allows you to maximise the use of the energy you produce.

Batteries can also be charged from the grid. The best way to do this would be if your energy supplier has an ‘off peak’ or night time rate that is cheaper than the usual day time rate.

You could charge your battery using the cheaper night time electricity and use that power during the day, saving you the cost of the more expensive day time electricity.

Finally, Batteries can also keep some power on in the home during power cuts. This is usually an optional extra but is one that would benefit those who experience regular outages. If this is something you require, we can talk you through the options available.

Benefits of installing a Battery Storage unit

The main benefit of battery storage is to utilise more of your solar generated power by storing it for your own use, rather than exporting it back to the grid. Additionally, the battery can be charged using a cheap rate electricity at night for use during the day when your grid supply would cost more. Batteries can also provide power during power cuts.

A solar battery storage system can increase the use of solar-generated electricity in a home from 30% to 80%

-85%

The cost of solar battery storage has decreased by over 85% since 2010.

70%

Adding a solar battery storage system to a home with solar panels can increase the savings on energy bills by up to 70%

Battery Only Installations

Batteries are usually installed along side the solar installation as part of a whole system. However you can have a battery only installation, the main reasons for this would be:

  • Adding a battery to an existing solar installation. This would help maximise the use of your existing system without the need to alter the solar installation.
  • If your home or business is not suitable for solar panels, you could still import and store electricity at a cheaper night rate to discharge and use that power through the day.

Solar Hot Water Diverter

Solar PV Diverters are another way to ensure you make use of as much of your own solar power as possible. They work by redirecting excess power generated by your solar panels to your immersion heater, heating the water tank. This won’t provide hot water all year round but will supplement your existing heating method to boost your savings even further!

  • Save Money: Reduces energy bills by up to 50%.
  • Eco-Friendly: Cuts carbon footprint and promotes sustainability.
  • Smart Technology: Automatically diverts excess energy to heat water.
